Fair trade is a term that's thrown around a lot (and probably misused a lot too - beware greenwashing!) - so what does it really mean?
In essence, fair trade is a way of doing business that puts people and the planet first. It's what I'm committed to in this business. Here's how it works:
When a product is labelled as "fair trade," it means that it was made under fair and ethical working conditions. This includes things like fair wages, safe working environments, and a ban on child labour. It also means that the farmers and workers who produce the product are able to negotiate fair prices for their goods.
In addition to promoting fair treatment of workers, fair trade also focuses on sustainability and environmental protection. This means that fair trade products are often made using eco-friendly practices using sustainable, biodegradable resources (like wool!) and that the workers who produce them are able to invest in their communities and the environment.
So, why is fair trade important? By supporting fair trade, you can help to create a fairer and more sustainable world. By choosing fair trade products - like your socks and slippers - you are supporting the people who make them and helping to ensure that they are able to earn a fair wage and work in safe conditions. You are also supporting environmentally friendly practices, which can help to protect the planet for future generations.
