Indigo Garden Kantha Quilt

A beautiful new addition to Cosy Buddha, our Kantha Quilts are made using a centuries-old textile tradition from Bengal.

Traditionally, kanthas were created by layering together pieces of well-worn cotton, often old saris, before stitching them by hand with rows of tiny running stitches. What began as a wonderfully resourceful way of giving old textiles a new life became a distinctive craft in its own right, with the hand stitching creating the softly rippled texture that makes kantha cloth so recognisable. 

Our quilts are a contemporary take on this traditional technique. Rather than being made from vintage cloth, each one is screen printed onto new cotton in India before being hand stitched throughout in the traditional kantha style. The little variations in the stitching are all part of their handmade character.

Lightweight, soft and wonderfully versatile, they’re beautiful folded across the end of a bed, layered over a duvet or sofa, or brought out as an extra layer when the evenings turn cooler.

Available in three prints, each chosen for its timeless, slightly faded feel.
